Monotypes are basically paintings that have been painted with printing inks on a hard surface like plexi-glass or metal and then transferred onto paper by applying pressure.

 Often they are created in layers by transferring colors and images to the paper more than one time. Jana Grover's monotypes were printed on a hand operated etching printing press and each one was created and "hand-pulled" by the artist.
